PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

The ultimate objective of PROGRESS is to contribute to the sustainable development of the RMG industry. For us, sustainable development does not only mean economic growth and improvement of the sector’s competitiveness; rather, it means striking a balance between the income interests of garment manufacturers, the workers’ needs for improved working conditions and living standards, and maintaining a sound environment.
Given the challenges faced by the garment industry today, and in line with GTZ’s concept of sustainable development, PROGRESS works in three main thematic areas:
- Social compliance
- Productivity improvement
- Environmental compliance with a focus on eco-efficiency
|
Our anticipated results are:
- National labor and environmental laws are better known and applied by stakeholders.
- Training and information materials for workers, factories and service providers are elaborated.
- At least 250 “Master” trainers are trained and available for the RMG sector.
- The capacity of main private and public service providers is improved.
- Best practices regarding environmental (eco-efficiency) and social standards are available and disseminated.
- Public private linkages and partnerships are increased.
